Galway’s Siobhán McCrohan won Ireland’s first medal at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne today.
The 36-year-old lightweight single sculler took silver behind Sophia Luwis of the United States, with Olivia Bates of Britain barely holding off Australia’s Georgia Miansarow of Australia to take the bronze.
McCrohan had led the race, despite a low rating, but Luwis took over just after 900 metres, with McCrohan holding a steady second.
Ireland have reached seven A Finals at the event, with six to come tomorrow, Sunday.
