High winds forced the cancellation of the University Championships at Lough Rinn on Saturday. After a UCC coxed four sank, organisers chose to cancel racing.
There was a delay until today in deciding the complete outcome. The overall points standing saw UCD come out on top, and the Wylie Cup for men also went to that club: UCD had won two of the four relevant events, and as their only remaining rivals for the Wylie, Trinity, had pulled out of the senior eights – one of the cancelled races – UCD are the men’s champions.
The Bank of Ireland Cup for women was not decided on the day, with all five clubs (UCC, UCD, University of Galway, University of Limerick and Trinity) in with a chance if the senior eights race had been held. This race has now been set for the Saturday of Dublin Metropolitan Regatta in Blessington (pictured) on May 27th.
